Do you want to gain experience working at an award-winning publishing company in gorgeous Southern California? Are you already proficient using Quark 6.5, Photoshop CS and Illustrator CS on a Macintosh OSX platform? Are you comfortable in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines? If you answered yes to each, a graphic design internship with BowTie Inc. might be the place for you! BowTie publishes more than 40 consumer and business-to-business magazines including Dog Fancy, CAT FANCY, Horse Illustrated, Water Garden News, Pet Style News, Bird Talk and Hobby Farm Homes. The company’s book division, BowTie Press, features such titles as “Proficient Motorcycling” and “Enjoying Dog Agility.”

Magazine Design Internship
• Work directly with art directors and designers on print materials such as classified design advertising, consumer marketing direct-mail pieces, magazine columns, features, covers and marketing materials. All work is based on design experience.
• Work directly with in-house illustrator and learn how to develop ideas conceptually.
• Have your design work printed in national magazines.
• Attend and contribute to design meetings and cover evaluations.
• Gain knowledge from professional art directors and designers by working alongside them.
• Complete 40 hours a week -- 8-hour days -- for 10 weeks.

Book Production Internship
• Work directly with designers on print materials such as marketing and collateral pieces (sell sheets, direct mail pieces and catalogs), magazine advertisements and gift books. All work is based on design experience.
• Prepare digital files for the printer, including links, final corrections and reflows.
• Attend and contribute to production meetings and book evaluations.
• Gain knowledge from professional designers by working alongside them.
• Complete 40 hours a week -- 8-hour days -- for 10 weeks.

Qualifications
• A college senior or recent graduate (up to two years post-graduation) in the area of graphic design or a related field.
• Magazine Design requires proficiency using Quark 6.5, Photoshop CS and Illustrator CS on a Macintosh OSX platform.
• Book Production requires proficiency using Quark 6.5 and Excel.
• Understand file formats.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
• Comfortable working independently and in groups.
