In order to send files to Fancy's FTP site, you will need an FTP client application. Several are available for Windows. One such program, WS_FTP LE, will be described here. You can use your web browser to download the file from the following site:

    http://www.ipswitch.com/downloads/index.html

("WS_FTP LE" is the free version of "WS_FTP Pro" and can be found by scrolling to the bottom of the webpage linked above)

Alternatively, you can find hundreds of FTP programs at www.versiontracker.com. They list both Freeware and Shareware programs. If you decide to choose an FTP program from this source, please keep in mind that Fancy cannot offer any technical support other than our basic FTP address, log-in name and password.

The current version of WS_FTP LE as of this writing is 5.08. You should be running Windows 95 or greater.

  • After you have downloaded the installer, run the installer application.
  • You will find a folder on your hard drive called "Ws_ftp". Within that folder, double-click the "WS_FTP LE" program.
  • A Session Properties window will open by default. In the "Host Name/Address" field, type the following ftp address: ftp.bowtieinc.com.
  • Please contact your sales rep or our preflight department for the latest FTP log-in information.
  • Click OK.
  • Another window should open up, showing you two windows. The Local System window represents your hard drive. The Remote Site window represents the FTP site. In the Remote Site window, you will see folders where you can send and receive files to the FTP site. The folders are arranged by magazine title. For example, if you are dealing with files for Dog Fancy, you should double-click the "dogfancy" folder.
  • Double-clicking a folder will open that folder. Double-clicking a file will download that file. If you double-click a wrong folder by mistake, you can back up a level by clicking the green arrow at the top of the window.
  • Art directors should send and receive their files to the subfolder called "editorial". Advertisers should send their files to the subfolder called "ads".
  • To receive a set of files, simply click on the file you are interested in on the Remote Site window and click the button. To select multiple files, click on the first file and shift click subsequent files before clicking the button.
  • To send files to the FTP site, select them in the Local System window and click the button.
